Canes to deliver Hurricane Florence relief items to New Bern
The Carolina Hurricanes announced Tuesday that two tractor-trailer loads of items collected in the team’s Hurricane Florence Relief Drive would be delivered Wednesday to the City of New Bern.
“It’s truly incredible to see the outpouring of generosity from our fans,” Canes president and general manager Don Waddell said in a statement. “We have 92 pallets full of donation items at PNC arena, ready to be delivered to our neighbors in need. Thank you to Advance Auto Parts for their assistance in helping us get some of those donations to New Bern.”
Advance Auto Parts, a Hurricanes sponsor, donated the tractor trailers to be used for the delivery.
More than 20 Hurricanes players assisted in the collection of the items before two preseason games at PNC Arena. Waddell and team owner Tom Dundon will be on hand on Wednesday at 8 a.m. as the trucks are loaded.
“New Bern is a proud, more than 300-year-old community, that served as the original capital of North Carolina,” New Bern mayor Dana Outlaw said in a statement. “One of the things that makes this state so great is that we all appreciate and help each other when times are tough. We are thankful for the Hurricanes and PNC Arena for their assistance in helping our citizens with their most immediate needs.”
